I tried the product with a TV/VCR combi unit, and it didnt work. I then got hold of a dedicated VCR and it worked very well using the yellow/red/white S-video connections into a SCART. Sound is decent. Overall good value for money in transferring old home movies to DVD file etc. Have not yet tried it with 'real' VHS films (copying those is illegal, of course!) but i think it would also work well with those. Only complaint would be that I cant get the AVI type file working so have to choose between MPEG (poor quality) or DVD (big file size). But it is still a good value for money product if you can get it working, if it fails at first i recommend try a few different combinations of hardware til you find something that it likes.

Had to return item for refund as it would not work. Product good and would have been value for money. It was easy to install driver except information it says you need to check in Driver Manager turned out to be incorrect.I was looking for EasyCapture but it shew up under a different name. My problem was I could not get an input signal for the image onto PC. Appears my VCR output was not high enough, due to age of VCR and thus I was unable to use it. Had there have been some indication that the item would only work under certain conditions that would have helped. Luckily a friend is an IT expert and found out why I could not get it to work. If it had of worked I would have given it 5 Stars!!!!! When I rang to say the Easy Capture would not work I was given a returns number without any hassle and within a few days of sending it back received a cheque.

Did not connect directly to VCR (Sony a per advert)as only composite video input sockets on VCR. Purchased a SCART with SCART and video connections and plugged to VCR output. Eventually able to see and capture video to .AVI. A Scart to USB would have been more useful than kit provided

Q: I am unable to connect Easy Capture to my VCR / camcorder / DVD player – what can I do?
A: When you buy a VCR, camcorder or DVD player you are usually supplied with an ‘RGB lead’. This lead has three yellow, red and white connectors at each end, or alternatively it may have these connectors at one end and a Scart jack at the other end. If you no longer have the RGB lead which is required to connect your Easy Capture to your existing VCR, camcorder or DVD player, you can order these for just £4.95 each.
Q: Which lead do I need?
A:
- If your player features a set of three red, yellow and white jacks at the back of the unit then you will need a RGB to RGB lead to connect the Easy Capture to your computer
- If your player features a Scart socket at the back of the unit then you will need a RGB to Scart lead to connect the Easy Capture to your computer
Q: How do I get started?
A: Step 1: Install software supplied to your computer. Step 2: Connect 'Easy-Capture' to your VHS Recorder and computer (lead supplied). Step 3: Select, play and download your chosen video or camcorder tape. Step 4: Save to computer for copying to DVD or permanent storage.
Q: I have tried to install but keep getting a message say not compatible with microsoftlogo/testing. Will this cause problems with other software?
A: It will not cause problems with other software. All it means is the software hasn't been tested with Microsoft but is compatible with Windows.
Q: I have a 'mono' camcorder. Will the Easy Capture work with this or must I have a stereo camcorder?
A: Easy Capture can work with 'mono' camcorder. It does depend on what operation system you use; Windows XP is not a problem but if using Vista, when in preview there is no sound, but when you record you can get audio. Be sure to set the Audio Device to USB Audio Device.
Q: Can you see what you are recording?
A: It will have a small window on the top left corner off the screen to show what you are recording
Q: I have tried to load Easy Capture softwear but when I input the serial number on the back of the packet, it is apparently invalid. What do I do?
A. The following is the masterkey number which can be used: 729A2-8A000-05519918
Q: Can the EasyCap record audio tapes onto my computer?
A: It can because it is just an interface for audio and video inputs into the computer. BUT the software provided is for recording videos with audio on to the computer and not just solely audio. Unless you have sufficient audio software, which is for recording audio, and are confident in using the software and recording audio then it is not advised to use the Easy Capture for recording audio tapes.
Q: Can the Easy Capture be used to record videos from other devices such as a Sky box or straight from a televison, or anything along those lines?
A: Yes it can. As long as the device you wish to record from has the relevant outputs required (Red, White and Yellow phono video lead). These must be outputs and not inputs otherwise it will not work. Check in the devices manuel first to see whether the device has the outputs needed.
Q: Can I copy films onto my computer using the Easy Capture?
A: Yes you can only for personal use. It is piracy to copy a film and then sell or lend it to another person without permission to do so.
Q: Will the videos I record onto my computer take up much space?
A: Yes they will. Video files are large files. You can choose the quality of the video to save space on your computer. The lower the quality the smaller the file.
Q: How long will it take to record?
A: This is a real time capture device therefore it will take 3 hours to record a 3 hour tape, for example.
Q: How many hours of video tape for 1GB.
A: The space depends on which format and which size you choose. For example: in AVI format there is no compression, the size is largest, and therefore takes about 1gb for 10 minutes recording. However it only uses around 200mb if using mpeg format, and only about 30mb if using WMV format.
Q: Is the Easy Capture compatible with the old style video 8mm camcorders?
A: Yes it is if you have a connection lead. See question 1 for details.
Q: I am being asked to register the EasyCap online. What happens if I don't do this?
A: I have connected EasyCapture and run the Ulead software but I cannot see the picture which I am inputting to the device. What do I do?
A: Don't worry. Follow these steps and it will work well:
1. On the Capture panel, click " capture video", you will see the "Option" button, click it.
2. Click " Video and Audio Capture Property setting"
3. At the prompted window, click "Source" panel, choose the video source as " Video composite"
4. At the TV System, choose "Pal" or "NTSC' which suitable for your camera.
5. Now you will see the picture, click " Preview audio with USB device" if you want to preview the video with sound.
