As a responsible retailer MySmartBuy.com is committed to minimising our impact on the environment. Whilst we continue be an increasingly successful and expanding business we also recognise that growth must not come at the expense of the environment. As a result, we take our commitment to environmental issues very seriously.
To that end, we always ensure our products are manufactured responsibly and are delivered to our warehouse and then on to our customers using postal carriers and couriers with proven track records of environmentally responsible practice. In addition, we are constantly looking at ways to improve our energy efficiency in our offices and warehousing operation, not just minimising packaging and waste disposal but also crucially the carbon footprint implication of our transport operations – consolidating shipments and deliveries wherever possible to reduce CO2 emissions.
Our Despatch Operation and the Environment
Every day at MySmartBuy.com we despatch a large number of packages to our customers. As well as striving to ensure that each package is delivered quickly and safely to every customer’s door, we are committed to using only responsible carriers to carry out our deliveries. We use TNT for our package despatch operation , as in addition to their proven track records of efficient package delivery, they also comply with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations plus endeavour to meet and exceed appropriate environmental good practice standards.
TNT is independently acknowledged as one of the most pre-eminent companies in the world when it comes to health and safety, sustainability and environmental issues. The company has impeccable credentials – an achievement recognised by the fact that it is one of the leading organisations within the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).
The DJSI is an annual review which analyses economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labour practices.
In addition, we are the first in the express delivery business to be awarded successive Carbon Trust Standards by the Carbon Trust – an independent and highly respected body which specialises in advising organisations on how to save energy through embracing low carbon technologies.
In line with our approach to Corporate Responsibility we hold certification to the ISO 14001 Standard. Each year assessors from our accreditation body carry out external audits at selected locations to ensure TNT still meets the requirements of this standard.
An integral element of our green drive is our fleet of zero emission vehicles enables us to serve our customers in busy town and city centres without producing any carbon emissions. Another green initiative is the investment of two metre longer vehicles which have the capacity to carry more goods to again help us to reduce our carbon footprint.
When our drivers are behind the wheel of a conventional diesel vehicle, we ensure they have been trained in Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving techniques.
All of our environmental initiatives form part of the company’s Corporate Responsibility Strategy which continues to deliver value for our customers, employees, partners and investors. Our people are committed to not only delivering a great service to you but also to protecting the environment.
Our Warehousing Operation and the Environment
In addition to our ongoing efforts to improve our delivery efficiency, at MySmartBuy.com we are also committed wherever possible to reduce the level of unnecessary plastic and cardboard used to pack our goods by the use of innovative yet highly robust protective materials. However, as an importer and retailer, MySmartBuy.com still handles a considerable amount of paper and cardboard which we recycle and use in the production of corrugated board, thereby minimising the requirement for new packaging materials. As the recycling of one tonne of paper uses 70% less energy than manufacturing paper from trees and 40% less water, we are contributing to efforts to use resources responsibly whenever possible. Every small effort counts and we do not stop there – with plastics from pallet wrap and packaging being collected, recycled and used in the production of new plastics and fibres.
WEEE: Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive aims to reduce the amount of WEEE being produced and encourages everyone to reuse, recycle and recover. The Directive also aims to improve the environmental performance of businesses that manufacture, supply, use, recycle and recover electrical and electronic equipment. With that directive in mind, any unsalable electrical products which MySmartBuy.com may wish to recycle are collected by WEEE regulated and authorised companies for processing in their specialised recycling centres. Throughout the supply chain, MySmartBuy.com has a firm commitment to the environment and we operate in full compliance of this directive.
